DJ Shub, formerly of A Tribe Called Red (but not a founding member), is a title earning DJ, award winning music producer, and devoted family man from Six Nations of the Grand River. His PowWowStep EP picked up an Indigenous Music Award for Best Instrumental Album in May of 2017; the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities (COCA) named him DJ of the Year in June of 2017; and, his music video for “Indomitable ft. Northern Cree Singers” picked up a 2017 Native American Music Award for Best Music Video along with a nomination for Best EDM/Dance Video at the 2017 Much Music Video Awards.

DJ Shub counts two DMC Canada DJ Championship titles (2007 and 2008), a DMC Canadian Battle for Supremacy title (2008), a Canadian Red Bull Thre3style title (2012), and a King of the Dot Canada vs. USA DJ battle win along with a trophy from the JUNO Awards as some of his most notable accomplishments.

The PowWowStep EP was released on December 2, 2016. The project includes six original songs featuring the vocals of seven-time Grammy nominated Northern Cree Singers, smoke dance singer Frazer Sundown, and a northern drum from Blackfoot territory called Black Lodge Singers.

DJ Shub parted ways with A Tribe Called Red in 2014. His work with the group includes the JUNO Award winning album, Nation II Nation and their most popular single, “Electric Pow Wow Drum”  (4,685,580 streams on Spotify).

“Shub left ATCR for family reasons, as that group’s tour schedule kept him away from his young kids. The musical differences appear to be minimal. But as ATCR get more heady and expansive, it’s Shub’s music that works better on a dance floor.”

“Played it for my high school class and they all started to move and throw their hands in the air. They said that’s pretty cool Mr. Wood! Judging by their action, I’d say it’s pretty darn electric.”
– Steve Wood, founder and lead singer of Northern Cree, on DJ Shub’s lead single entitled “Indomitable ft. Northern Cree”
